The Project Development Programme (PDP) is a global programme with activities in South and South East Asia (India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Viet Nam), North, West, East and Southern Africa (Morocco, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa) and South Amercia (Argentina) commissioned and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) under the German Energy Solutions Initiative, that supports German companies in creating successful and context-adaptive business partnerships in foreign markets.
PDP combines development cooperation with entrepreneurial commitment from the private sector. The markets of emerging and developing countries are promising but also pose challenges for international business partners. The PDP team therefore develops commercially viable renewable energy, green hydrogen and energy efficiency projects with local companies and offers business initiation with German or European small and medium-sized enterprises. The project team collects data from energy consumers and evaluates it technically and economically. It advises local companies free of charge and without prejudice to their interests and brings them into contact with German or European business partners.
At the same time, the project supports market development through training, analyses and studies on the risks and potentials of renewable energies and energy efficiency. The establishment of private-sector business relations is promoted through visits to reference plants in the cooperation countries.
Regarding the Vietnamese context, PDP provides a range of services, both for the participating German and Vietnamese companies. These include information sharing, establishing contacts, support for showcase projects and marketing, awareness-raising, and advisory services on the prevailing business conditions. In countries where there is a local infrastructure of German foreign trade promotion, e.g. the Delegate of German Industry and Commerce (AHK), PDP cooperates closely with and contributes to its energy and development expertise. This brings together the synergies, experience and networks of foreign trade promotion and development cooperation.
