Balcony solar is more than just a solution for providing electricity to households. When introduced into vocational education, this technology can also become a new area of training, helping students develop skills that are increasingly in demand in the labour market.
This was one of the topics discussed by the BSS4VN project at Green Industry Day, held on 11 September 2026 at Khanh Hoa College of Technology and Energy (KTEC). The event brought together more than 300 students, businesses, vocational education and training institutions from across Viet Nam, and local government representatives.
From Real-World Applications to the Classroom
At the event, the BSS4VN team met with KTEC’s leadership to discuss opportunities to integrate knowledge and skills related to balcony solar systems into existing training programmes. The two sides also explored the possibility of extending this content to KTEC’s partner vocational education institutions in the region.

KTEC Vice Rector Phan Vinh An welcomed the initiative and expressed his hope that GIZ would continue collaborating with KTEC on training in the installation and use of balcony solar systems.
“Integrating balcony solar into vocational training allows students not only to learn about a new technology but also to gain practical experience in installing, operating, and using it. We hope to work with vocational education institutions to make this knowledge more accessible to students and better align it with the needs of businesses,” shared Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thao, BSS4VN Project Manager.

For students, this provides an opportunity to gain early exposure to an emerging technology and develop skills that can be applied in practice. For training institutions, keeping up with new technologies also helps ensure that curricula remain more closely aligned with the evolving needs of the labour market.
Learning About New Technologies Through Hands-On Experiences
At the BSS4VN booth, KTEC students, business representatives, and educational institutions had the opportunity to explore the balcony solar model firsthand. Through interactive activities and renewable energy games, students could observe how the system works and discuss its potential real-world applications.

When educational institutions, businesses, and development organisations work together, technology goes beyond being introduced at a single event. New knowledge and skills can be brought into the classroom, aligned with business needs, and create additional career opportunities for the next generation of workers as Viet Nam transitions towards a greener energy system.
