Hanoi, April 10, 2025 – As part of the trip to Berlin, Germany from March 17 to 21, the delegation from the Electricity Authority of Viet Nam (EAV) held meetings with German leading companies specialising in solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and nearshore wind to exchange knowledge and advance cooperation.

Key highlights

  • BESS: Blueberry Energy – a top solar power developer – presented ways to scale the BESS market in Viet Nam. The discussion emphasized phased regulations to support the growth and adoption of the technology across the country
  • Nearshore wind: PNE AG – an experienced project developer in renewable energy – underscored the need for bankable tariff structures and long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to attract investment and make nearshore wind a viable market in Viet Nam
  • Grid flexibility: Enertrag – a renewables and green hydrogen project developer – showcased how BESS can enhance grid flexibility and reliability, illustrating success stories from Germany to inspire Viet Nam’s energy future

The Vietnamese delegate learned that clear regulations, market-driven incentives and long-term investments are crucial for scaling renewable projects. A transparent tariff system, flexible revenue models and a focus on grid flexibility are also essential to ensuring the financial sustainability of renewable projects.

Organised by the ‘Promoting the Transition of the Energy Sector in Viet Nam’ (TEV) project, the trip aimed to equip the EAV with Germany’s best practices on energy transition, paving the way for Viet Nam to lead the charge in clean energy innovation. GIZ and EAV are jointly implementing TEV, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
