INDUSTRIAL DECARBONIZATION: A STRATEGIC DECISION OR A SURVIVAL PRESSURE FOR BUSINESSES?

Since 2019, around two-thirds of global final energy demand growth has come from industry, while progress in industrial energy efficiency has slowed significantly. Manufacturing remains one of the hardest-to-abate sectors, contributing up to 40% of global CO₂ emissions and facing increasing pressure to decarbonize under stricter ESG requirements.

Amid growing pressure, the German Training Week (GTW) 2026, held from 18–20 May in Ho Chi Minh City that focusing on “Industrial Heat & Cold Supply,” attracted strong attention from industry stakeholders. The event brought together companies from energy-intensive sectors including textiles, footwear, food processing, industrial leather processing, chemicals, oil and gas.

During the three-day intensive training, participants exchanged practical technologies and expert solutions to improve design performance, as well as the upgrading and operation of industrial heating and cooling systems.

The program provided a comprehensive overview of energy use in industrial heating and cooling systems while focusing on solutions to optimize energy efficiency, reduce consumption, and promote sustainable operations. Participants were also updated on regulatory frameworks, relevant policies, and emerging trends in renewable technologies and carbon neutrality within the sector.

A central element of the GTW was the direct exchange with German solution providers experienced in industrial thermal supply. These companies presented concrete technologies and approaches, engaging participants in in-depth discussions on technical feasibility, economic viability, and potential implementation pathways. This exchange aimed to support companies in identifying suitable technologies and potential partners for upcoming investments.

Prominent among the participants were leading German experts introducing advanced solutions:

  • 2G Energy: Showcasing highly efficient gas engine solutions
  • Robert Bosch: Presenting solutions for the decarbonization of heating and process heat
  • Ziehl-Abegg: Introducing high-performance industrial fan technologies

In addition, the training also introduced financial assessment methods to support effective investment decisions. Through case studies, group activities, and business sharing sessions, participants had the opportunity to explore practical applications and suitable implementation solutions for industrial production.

The green transition is no longer a story of the future but increasingly becoming a decisive factor in business competitiveness today.

German Training Week 2026 was organized by Project Development Programme (PDP), part of the German Energy Solutions Initiative by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWE). PDP promotes climate-friendly energy solutions in selected cooperation countries across North (Morocco), West (Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria), East (Kenya) and Southern Africa (South Africa), South and South-East Asia (India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam), and South America (Argentina).
