Ho Chi Minh, 23 October 2025 – The Green Hydrogen Hub Viet Nam was officially launched at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) in Ho Chi Minh City, marking a major step forward in Viet Nam’s efforts to develop its green hydrogen economy and accelerate the energy transition.
The event welcomed Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc – Vice Minister of Education and Training of Viet Nam, Mr. Christopher Scholl – Deputy Consul General of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Michaela Baur – Country Director of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Viet Nam, and about 100 representatives from government agencies, development organisations, research institutions, universities, and the private sector from both Viet Nam and abroad, reflecting strong interest in advancing Viet Nam’s emerging hydrogen market and fostering international cooperation.
In her remarks, Ms. Michaela Baur, Country Director of GIZ Viet Nam, emphasized that: “What truly distinguishes this Hub is that it is more than just a network; it is a physical epicenter of collaboration and innovation. This is the place where knowledge and collaboration will converge to drive change.”
Sharing the vision for the Hub, Mr. Thomas Aulig, Vice President of the Vietnamese-German University, noted: “This hub stands as a platform for collaboration between academia, industry, and policy – promoting education, research, and innovation in the field of renewable energy and hydrogen technologies.”
Mr. Henri Wasnick, Director of H2Uppp project (GIZ) further emphasized: “We are already witnessing strong momentum from the private sector, reflected in growing domestic engagement across the hydrogen value chain and the keen interest from global technology providers. The engagement of both German and Vietnamese enterprises sends a clear signal of our shared commitment to Viet Nam’s energy transition.”
During the ceremony, representatives from the Green Hydrogen Hub Viet Nam’s consortium partners jointly pressed the kick-off button and cut the ribbon, officially marking the inauguration of the Hub’s premises on the Vietnamese-German University campus. The Hub is envisioned as a dynamic space that fosters business collaboration, knowledge exchange, and technology demonstration, while also offering training programs on green hydrogen to develop the capacity of students, young professionals, and energy sector experts alike.
Highlights from the Opening Ceremony
- Signing of 02 strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs):
- Indefol – Infineon: a partnership to integrate Infineon’s cutting-edge power electronics technologies into the development of Indefol’s 1 MW containerized electrolyser, fully powered by solar or wind energy.
- Wealth Power Group – Indefol: a collaboration to co-develop zero-carbon industrial parks in Central Viet Nam, applying green-hydrogen-based electricity, heat, steam, and transport solutions.
- Exhibition on green hydrogen technologies and initiatives, featuring participation from both Vietnamese and German enterprises. The exhibition provided a platform for technology demonstrations, business and investor networking, and the exploration of new cooperation opportunities along the hydrogen value chain.
- Panel discussion on Viet Nam–Germany cooperation opportunities in developing the green hydrogen market, workforce building, and the role of universities in linking research with practical application, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Ho Xuan Thinh (VGU). The panel brought together speakers from diverse sectors including renewable energy, finance and investment, project development, education, and science and technology.
Green Hydrogen Hub Viet Nam – A Central Platform for Collaboration and Innovation
The Green Hydrogen Hub Viet Nam is part of the International Hydrogen Ramp-up Programme (H2Uppp), implemented by the GIZ Energy Support Programme and commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
The Hub supports the emergence of Viet Nam’s green hydrogen economy through three key pillars:
- Business matchmaking, opportunity exploration, and technology transfer;
- Training and upskilling for professionals, policymakers, and technicians;
- Showcasing and demonstrating cutting-edge green hydrogen technologies.
Located at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU), the Hub is coordinated by GIZ, the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Viet Nam (AHK Vietnam), and VGU, in collaboration with a consortium of Vietnamese and international enterprises including Indefol GmbH, ENERTRAG, NEUMAN & ESSER Group, Messer Viet Nam, Siemens Viet Nam, Bosch Viet Nam, TÜV SÜD Viet Nam, and IB Consulting.
The launch of the Green Hydrogen Hub Viet Nam marks the beginning of a long-term cooperation process aimed at strengthening the national hydrogen ecosystem – from policy dialogue and market development to training, innovation, and international collaboration. The Hub is expected to play a crucial role in Viet Nam’s energy transition, contributing to a sustainable, inclusive energy future.
