On May 8, 2026 in Hanoi, the Technical Workshop on Green Hydrogen Technology & Applications organized by the Green Hydrogen Hub Viet Nam brought together nearly 80 experts, businesses, research institutions, and students to discuss practical pathways for developing the green hydrogen market in Viet Nam.

The event highlighted the growing interest of the Vietnamese private sector in green hydrogen, alongside traditional renewable energy sources. To realize the development of green hydrogen in Viet Nam, enterprises play a crucial role in researching and implementing concrete solutions that are tailored to local market conditions.

Key discussion points of the workshop included:

  • Digital transformation plays an important role in hydrogen system operations, particularly through AI-powered SCADA solutions to optimize efficiency and safety.
  • Developing the hydrogen market is not only about technology, but also requires essential foundations such as workforce development, safety training, and practical response capabilities.
  • Viet Nam needs to strengthen linkages between policy, businesses, and research to advance concrete hydrogen projects.
  • An innovative idea by students from Vietnamese-German University, winners of the Green Hydrogen Innovation Competition 2026, introduced Hy-Truck – a mobile green hydrogen training model for universities, reflecting the growing interest of the younger generation in this field.
  • Experts also shared best practices and successful models in green methanol, green ammonia, and e-fuels, highlighting their potential to reduce emissions in hard-to-abate sectors such as maritime and aviation.

The workshop created a multi-dimensional platform for dialogue among stakeholders across the green hydrogen ecosystem, from policy and technology to market development and workforce capacity, as well as success stories from hydrogen projects around the world.

This was the second event in the 2026 Green Hydrogen workshop series organized by the Green Hydrogen Hub Viet Nam. The event was held within the International Hydrogen Ramp-up Programme (H2Uppp), funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and implemented by GIZ.
